Goodwood Revival So what is it then?

Well it's an annual three-day festival held in September at Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit near Chichester in West Sussex England.

The Goodwood Revival celebrates both the motor sport heritage of the circuit from 1948 until 1966 and that prior to being a motor circuit it was Royal Air Force Station Westhampnett during the Second Word War from 1940 until 1946.

 

The first Goodwood Revival was held in 1998 and has grown to what is the largest and most diverse event of its kind. It is not only a weekend paradise for classic car enthusiast with almost every classic road car imaginable parked in dedicated car parks. It's a paradise for lovers of the 40's 50's and 60's Vintage fashions and even for those just looking for a truly great day out.

The best way to answer the question of "What is Goodwood Revival" is to say its probably the nearest most of us will ever get to being able to travel back in time or being able to walk on to the set of an epic film. The whole motor racing circuit is given the look and feel of times gone by, it could be any time you chose during the post war years when Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit was used as a top flight venue.

It has been said that it is a huge fancy dress party but I would argue that it is so much more than that. The lengths that the creators of the event go to make it feel and look like that the event is in fact staged during some point in the past, is quite a sight to see in its self. Then when you add in the lengths that many of the visitors go to in recreating the clothing style of the decade they have chosen to represent. Well it's probably one of the best weekends there is for just people watching and admiring. It's more of a period clothing party with accuracy and attention to detail being the watchword for many of the visitors.

It's the best weekend of the year for seeing classic cars. It's the vintage fashions. It's a chance to dress in vintage style. It's a great chance to dress up smartly all weekend and have great fun. Its so much more than old cars it's the clothes, it's the music, it's seeing everybody dressed in vintage clothing. It's such a glamorous weekend being able to dress and act as they once did, everybody is happy its like being an extra in a period drama.
